Session Abstract

Extreme Strategic Planning: The Dawn of a New Discipline in Business Leadership

Keith Young

The global marketplace is driven by information and the delicate balance of supplier and buyer networks. We live in a world where oil prices can jump at the hint of a terrorist attack, where whole industries can be turned upside down because of a natural disaster.

Though the world we live in is more elastic, many executives are still using old hat methods to run their businesses. The strategy development process in today's organizations is too slow and fragmented decisions are made in a vacuum~ resources are being wasted and the overall business direction of today's companies is out of line with the real world.

Instead of using a "one-strategy fits all" approach or making decisions based on far fetched, unfounded assumptions, business executives need to make their organizations agile. That is, the strategy development process should be crisp and based on good intel, the implementation of the strategy must be done relentlessly, and the strategies pursued need to be aligned with the business environment.

The purpose of this presentation is to share information on a new and inventive way of developing business strategies in today's fast paced world. The Content in the presentation is best suited for senior executives that are responsible for individuals in senior management positions.

After attending this session attendees will be able to:

  • Describe the basic concepts and approach of Extreme Strategic Planning
  • Identify and discuss the benefits of Extreme Strategic Planning (ESP) over other more traditional methods of strategic planning
  • Identify and describe the techniques used to develop a corporate strategy based on ESP principles
