Session Abstract

What is the purpose of your Company? Is it to create shareholder value, serve
your customers, make a product or provide jobs? Can it be found in your Mission
Statement? Does it inspire you? If so, does it inspire others? This seminar
looks at the role "purpose" plays in developing a powerful business
strategy.
We assert that the success of an organization is a function of the sustained
value it provides to its stakeholders or stakeholder groups. Organizations that
take on a "larger purpose", that is a purpose both meaningful and
important to all of its key stakeholder groups, can maximize that value thereby
creating a competitive advantage. The key to maximizing value is to have that
larger purpose serve as the context for all strategic planning.
The seminar develops the theories behind this approach, the trends that have
changed the relationships of stakeholder groups in the business community and
provides useful tools in creating and sustaining a purposeful organization,
including creating the larger purpose, developing a business strategy consistent
with that purpose and putting in place the structures needed to sustain purposeful
behavior.
What you will learn and take away from the presentation is:
- An appreciation for the power of Purposeful Behavior in the for-profit sector
- Useful approaches for bringing a "larger" purpose to your organization
- How to develop a business strategy that is aligned with a Purposeful commitment
