This presentation discusses different strategies and their application, and
the specific interaction between strategy and tactics in running businesses.
It's a fundamental reflection about strategy, tactics and its application to
businesses.
Nowadays strategy is almost like a buzzword used in numerous occasions and
applied to almost anything. It still remains vague and hard to define.
What is strategy, what are the main categories of strategies? Where does strategy
stop and tactics start ? Should one rely more on strategy or tactics, both equally,
or none and how does one interact with the other? "Strategic planning"
inherently removes a degree of flexibility, is it avoidable? Is it necessary?
Is it an unavoidable compromise in order to reap its benefits?
There is not one model that applies to all situations, nor are there similar
situations that require the same model. Yet there are winning strategies and
tactics. This presentation will attempt to illustrate the different strategic
models that are available. It will briefly analyze where any of these models
can be applied to a slew of business problems and their expected consequences.
We will discuss key business functions and the relevance of the application
of strategic thinking to their optimization. We will look at strategy tie in
to companies, from a pure existential standpoint, a competitive approach or
for operational efficiency benefit.
From the point of view of tactics, this presentation will expand on a proven
military tactic that is fundamental for a successful tactician and the conditions
that make all tactics effective. While many successful tacticians apply them
instinctively, it is interesting to refine the process to be able to understand
it better and to optimize its utilization.
Finally we will look at a method for companies to maximize strategic and tactics
implementation to operate efficient and successful businesses.
