Biography
Kevin O'Brien directs SRI International's Innovation Partnership Programs. These
stimulating programs leverage SRI's best practices for turning ideas into
high-impact customer value. Program participants learn techniques for creating
compelling value for customers or stakeholders and their organizations. These
programs have enabled enterprises to develop project portfolios targeted at
launching breakthrough products, while still managing risk. SRI's world-renowned
R&D teams and strategic consultants assist enterprises not only in designing the
projects, but also assist in actual performance of the development effort.
O'Brien has a diverse technical background that includes nanotechnology, medical
devices, and alternative energy technology solutions. Before joining SRI in
2006, he was Senior Manager of New Business Development at Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory. In that role, he was responsible for building teams to
develop cleantech applications and for coordinating business activities. Prior
to that, O'Brien served as Chief Knowledge Transfer Officer at the National
Science Foundation's Center for Biophotonics at the University of California,
Davis. There, he was active in building strategic alliances, acquiring funding,
and developing business models to commercialize technologies.
O'Brien earned his Ph.D. in macromolecular science and engineering and his M.S.
and B.S. in polymer science and engineering from Case Western University in
Cleveland, Ohio.
