Stanley C. Abraham

Stanley C. Abraham, Ph.D.

Dr. Stan Abraham is Professor of Strategy and Entrepreneurship in the College of Business Administration, California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and President of his own consulting firm, Future By Design, Santa Monica, CA.

His second book, Strategic Planning: A Practical Guide for Competitive Success, with CD-ROM, Thomson South-Western, 2006 has been widely adopted. He has served on the prestigious journal Strategy & Leadership's Board of Contributing Editors since January 2002, joining a cadre of top strategists from around the world, and has published many articles in that journal, among them, every ASP conference since the first in 2001 (read them on ASP's website, www.strategyplus.org).

Stan has been conducting one- to five-day workshops and seminars on strategic planning and general management for senior managers in the U.S., Mexico, and Colombia (the last two with simultaneous translation) since 1994 with excellent evaluations. He is an accomplished presenter and has given presentations before professional audiences for over 20 years on a variety of management topics. He involves his audiences, who tell him that he has a gift for clarifying complex concepts and making them come alive.

Stan has been a management consultant for almost 40 years, founding Future By Design in 1983, and specializes in strategic planning and implementation (organizational change) for established organizations, and writing or evaluating business plans for startup and emerging companies. One of his clients, the Computer Information Systems Dept. at Cal Poly Pomona, won the Association for Strategic Planning's Excellence in Strategic Planning Award in October 2003. Along with other former presidents of the Southern California Planning Forum (including David Crain), Stan co-founded The Association for Strategic Planning (ASP) in 1999. He served on its Board of Directors for its first seven years, organized its first annual conference in October 2001, New Strategies for a Rapidly Changing World, and served as President in 2003-04. He received the Association's Distinguished Service Award in February 2007.

Before coming to Cal Poly Pomona, Stan was Associate Professor of Strategy at Pepperdine University's School of Business and Management and chair of its Management Department, a Senior Policy Researcher at The Rand Corporation, Santa Monica, CA, and a Member of the Technical Staff at General Research Corp., Santa Barbara, CA. Before that, he was a research project engineer with Atomic Energy of Canada, Limited, publishing four research reports and receiving two patents. Stan holds a Ph.D. from UCLA's Anderson School of Management (now UCLA Anderson), an SM from MIT's Sloan School of Management (now MIT Sloan), and a B.Sc.(Eng.) in ME from the University of London, England.
