Biography
As the director of worldwide standards and technology strategy for Texas
Instruments' Wireless Terminals Business Unit, Yoram Solomon is responsible for
coordinating TI's worldwide standards activity, providing technical support for
mobile connectivity and standardization initiatives, and evaluating the
company's investments in the wireless market. He also manages the TI's wireless
intellectual property rights strategy.
A well known industry evangelist, Solomon is on the Mobile DTV, WiMedia and
Wi-Fi Alliance boards; is active in the new UWB activity in the Bluetooth SIG;
and is a key contributor to the Wireless USB Promoters Group. He previously
served as president of the Mobile DTV Alliance and chairman of the Wi-Fi
Alliance 802.11g marketing task group, the coexistence task group and others.
He is also active in the 3GPP™ Global Initiative, the WiMAX Forum, IEEE and the
Telecommunications Industry Association.
Together with his contribution to the success of the TI wireless team, Solomon's
involvement in numerous organizations provides him with a solid understanding of
market trends and advancements. His expertise in next-generation technologies
also provides him with a strong foundation of knowledge regarding the future of
the wireless industry.
A well respected representative for TI and the organizations he is a part of,
Solomon is frequently quoted in top U.S. trade and business publications,
including EE Times, Wireless Week, USA Today and Business Week. He also has
authored multiple articles and recently wrote a book, Bowling with a Crystal
Ball, which explains fast-moving technology trends, techniques to project future
evolutions and ways to influence the massive electronic products market.
Prior to his current position at TI, Solomon was responsible for strategic
business development and industry relations for the connectivity organization
within TI's Advanced Signal Processing (ASP) Business Unit. He also served as
general manager for TI's Consumer Electronics Connectivity Business Unit, where
he led execution of the company's wired and wireless strategies — specifically
for the consumer segment. Solomon joined TI in 2002 as director of business
development and strategic planning for the Wireless Networking Business Unit,
focusing on Wi-Fi technology.
Before joining TI, Solomon was vice president and general manager of PCTEL's
Advanced Communications Business Unit in San Jose, Calif. While at PCTEL, he
defined the company's 802.11 product strategy and market opportunity, and worked
on its broadband DSL product line. Solomon also held senior-level management
positions at Voyager Technologies, Israel's Ministry of Industry and Trade, and
Electronic Line, Ltd. He also founded Solram Electronics, Ltd., an Internet and
computer telephony integration company.
Solomon is currently working toward a PhD in Organization and Marketing in
Capella University. He earned a master's degree of business administration from
the University of Colorado and a law degree from Tel-Aviv University in Israel.
He also participated in the executive marketing management program at Stanford
University and received an electronics and computer engineering degree from Ort
Singalowsky College in Tel-Aviv, Israel.
